If you read this column regularly, you probably already know the answer to that question is no. Cats are definitely not evil, mean, or vindictive by nature. And yet this seems to be a recurring theme. It’s something I hear in my veterinary practice all the time.

Dispelling the Myth of Nine Lives
For one, cats are not described as having nine lives in all cultures. While certain areas around the world believe that cats have multiple lives, the number nine is not universal. For example, in Arabic-speaking parts of the world, cats are believed to have six lives.
Can cats hurt dogs?
Cats can also harm dogs, but this happens far less often. In most cases, the cat is simply trying to get away from the dog. Like you might expect, the best way to keep your pets from fighting is to prevent them from fighting in the first place. Prevention is the best strategy in this situation.
